  • be less dependent on annotations by using intuitive colour palettes
  • use text colour and fonts to add text hierarchy
  • add in story-enhancing annotations and data highlights to draw attention to the key data patterns
  • package up bits of reusable R code
  • make use of {ggtext}, {geomtextpath} and {gghighlight}
